Victoire de Castellane reinterprets Monsieur Dior’s lucky star in the form of a wind rose – an eight-pointed star.
A twist of grains encircles the medallion, which turns to switch between the gemstone and wind rose side.
Christian Dior spent his childhood in Normandy at the estate of Granville. Overlooking the sea, the estate was named “Les RHUMBS” – meaning the 32 divisions of the compass rose (ROSE DES VENTS in French). Growing up in such an environment, Mr. Dior believed in the existence of destiny. in 1946, Mr. Dior stumbled upon a metallic star on the road. He saw it as a symbol of destiny and decided to create his own fashion house.
The ROSE DES VENTS collection, designed by VICTOIRE DE CASTELLANE in 2015, is based on this inspired story. It symbolizes a journey, embellished with semi-precious stones in a circular emblem in the colors favored by Mr. Dior, surrounded by a circle of golden ears of rice, paying homage to the sails and the sea. On one side of the pendant is white mother-of-pearl, pink opal, turquoise, lapis lazuli or black onyx, and on the other side is an octagonal pattern set with diamonds that alternates in front and behind as the wearer moves.” The compass rose represents travel.” Victoria explains, “Creation, for me, involves searching, thinking until I find my footing, and then embarking on a journey; creation, too, is the product of a spiritual voyage.”
This year, the ROSE DES VENTS collection pays homage to the vastness of the sea with some new pieces. Three Y-shaped necklaces decorated with the iconic octagonal crest motif, with black onyx, pink opal or white mother-of-pearl, and supported by diamonds, subtly sway on yellow or rose gold chains; more contemporary slender open bracelets adorn the wrist, with a round crest at each end and diamonds surrounded by gold beads, like a precious rudder. Whether in yellow gold with white mother-of-pearl, or rose gold with black onyx or pink opal, these bracelets can be worn in different materials to give them a more dynamic look.” The “ROSE CÉLESTE” collection also features three new pieces: sun, moon and octagonal motifs in different sizes and interlocking arrangements, transformed into double-layered necklaces, bracelets and earrings. The sun, moon and stars on the double-layered necklace, bracelet and earrings create a romantic universe around the neck, wrist and ears.
